Useless Information Regarding Art That Is Actually Quite Useful

This post is yet another rambling bit of nonsense making no claims of sagacious insight, so you are now warned.

First two unrelated thoughts which could make great sayings on coffee mugs, although the coffee mugs would have to be rather large.

Very large coffee mug one: One thing that I keep telling myself is that an artist doesn’t “draw” the model but rather “interprets” the model.

Very large coffee mug two: Art historians present lectures about how art changes through time. But art doesn’t change. The customer does.

Now some thoughts as to the types of people who bother to look at art objects or what ever creative product is in front of them. And more importantly how they see the object. To illustrate the concept I have created a beautiful diagram because you can never go wrong if you have a beautiful diagram to make something sound important. I sincerely hope there are no spelling errors in this diagram because I am too lazy to re-do it.

Obviously there is a wide amount of overlap in these groups, but for now let us assume this orderly structure (since humans generally love orderly structures) consists of five discrete buckets. The categories are determined by what each group thinks when looking at an art object.

  1. Art Collectors would say “Could I buy this?”
  2. Art Professionals (academic instructors, museum personnel, etc.) would say “Could I verbalize and curate this?”
  3. Art Dealers of course would say “Could I sell this?”
  4. Art Makers would say “Could I make this?”
  5. People who are simply curious would say “Huh?”

Well so much for that. The system works great if everyone stayed in their bubble.

Death By Coconut – A Mercifully Short Story With A Dubious Moral

Orville Pickle knew the value of planning ahead, and had lived up to the high ideals of pragmatism he extolled to anyone unfortunate enough to be within earshot. Mr. Pickle carefully planned a long career at the Acme Accounting Corporation, a large accounting firm known for its superior service to some of the largest multinational corporations in the world. His work was well regarded by his superiors and his work ethic was exemplary.

After decades of dedication he had finally reached the age where a comfortable retirement had been earned. Beautiful South Florida was the chosen destination for the hard working Orville. The very first day of his well deserved retirement he decided to take a lounge chair outdoors to rest under a large coconut tree.

The sweet smelling warm breeze reminded him how wise he had been to plan ahead so well. The breeze began to pick up a bit. As the wind hit the top of the tree a coconut dislodged and came tumbling down on Orville Pickle’s head. Orville Pickle was killed instantly.

Author’s Comments: I actually did some “research” on this topic and found that coconuts are actually quite dangerous. I can only recommend the wearing of hard hats in the zones of risk.

In the mean time I observed a rare rain event.

As you have, for whatever reason, made it down to this point you are no doubt aware that your valuable time has now been wasted reading a post of basic nonsense. Thank you for participating in the journey.

Human Figure Compositions

For some reason I had previously rarely incorporated human figures in my work. I decided to change that last year. I don’t think artists always “capture” a figure but rather they interpret via eye-brain-hand. The result is a sort of spiritual magic. So I am happy my life journey is taking me to this path.

I took some drawings and used them to build tableaux with Blender 3D. The first tells the story of the voyeur. I leave the meaning and interpretation to the viewer.

The next tells the story of moving out of the body. Or maybe a liberation from the body.

I have no idea why ball head is watching, or what/who ball head is. Is he disturbed? The naked cut-outs make me think of paper dolls.

I am curious where my path is going.
